The Way We Were

Sometimes there’s no explanation for the way things happen in life. We have to make adjustments and move on with the hope that every thing will be alright.

Very recently I had to make the decision to end a friendship that was very dear to me. It hurt to cut the ties, but at this point in my life, it is the best thing for me. It’s hard letting go of someone who you got along with so well. When you’ve built a solid foundation on friendship. One you have more in common with than commonality itself.

I am going to miss the runs, when you’d pass me and give me that notorious “great job” slap on the butt. Those workout sessions that left us sweaty and stank and thirsting for some “thirstaide.” I’m going to miss giving you my motivational speeches. Your pushes for me to better myself. Gonna miss those late nights of hours and hours of endless ramblings. I’m going to miss your educating me on the wide world of sports. And let’s not forget all of the times I got the answers right at the games. I’m going to miss your ongoing infuriation with the “Hawk.” Your competitiveness will be missed. And so will the grocery shopping sessions. Yeah, I’ll miss those greatly. Lots of memories there, especially when you’d tell me I couldn’t get certain things because they weren’t on my list and I’ll tell you to get certain things that weren’t on yours. Going to BlockBuster to pick out all the low-budget, independent movies will be missed. Hopefully the rest of your CAU buddies have found better things to do with their time than make Bellyknockoffs…lol. The Six Flags trip was a classic! I’ll miss the laughter. The way I made you laugh, they way you made me laugh, the way we made each other laugh.

But seriously, you will be greatly missed. In due time, maybe our friendship will resurrect itself. Maybe we will re-find what made our friendship special to begin with. Who knows what the future holds. I just hope that you understand and respect where I am in all of this right now … In this never-ending quest for understanding.

I wish you nothing but happiness. Always have, always will. And I pray that you do not lose yourself in the convenience of newness, in the quest to find yourself.

This is dedicated to the way we were.

Always,

~J~
