V-Day

For all you lovers out there, this post is not for you.

In my opinion, Valentines day is a day for all of those who forget to love the other 364 days of the year. Seriously, stores are overflowing with folks scrambling to buy roses, cards, candy, stuffed animals…anything to show the one they are with that they care. Why not do those things all year round? Why wait for the 14th of February to show love?

I was in Wal-Mart today and chuckled to myself at all of the people blocking aisles picking over all of the Valentine’s Day assortments. People looked perplexed as if they had no idea what their significant other would appreciate. Some walked in, picked up the first thing that they saw, and headed straight to the register. Others were still in the same spot they were in when I walked in and back out the store.

What gets me most is that more than 50% of people celebrate V-day out of obligation. They feel that because the day was created to show your lover appreciation that if they don’t do something special, they will end up in the dog house. Personally, that’s unfair, especially if that person shows you that they care about you more often than not. Give people a break. It’s just another day like any other. Your love isn’t any more special on the 14th than it is on the 15th. Love is love and should be shown every day of the year, not just on the recognized day.

To me, this day is over-commercialized. It brings in $14 billion annually. I believe the money can be used for more purposeful things. Don’t you?

Please don’t think that I am a salty, disgruntled, single woman mad with the world because there isn’t anyone for me to get ‘I care’ stuff from or give it to. I am not that woman. Even when I am in a relationship during this time of year, I do not go all out. I do special things for my significant other every day. Every day that I am with my special someone is special. I don’t need a designated day to buy flowers, cards, candy or stuffed animals (well, I am not a stuffed animal person anyway) or gifts. If I am out and see something I like or just want to do something special for my manfriend, I will. That’s just me though.

For those who celebrate today, Happy Valentines Day.

Blessings & Prosperity!
