Blues Notes

Be Clear

A few days ago I took my dad out for a date. We went to the movies and grubbed until our stomachs fell over our pant’s line afterward. During our drive to both destinations, we indulged in great conversation. We talked about what it is men really look for in a woman, and we also talked about this great experience called life.

Life.

Before going to school for esthetics (skin care), I sort of had an idea of where I wanted my life to go. I knew I wanted to one day have my own business. Doing what was the question. As I furthered along in school, I realized I had been opened up to a whole new idea and direction. My days quickly became filled with plans to start my own hair removal and makeup artistry studio. As I went through different planning stages, I also found myself with different names. B.A.S.E. Avenue (Body and Soul Essentials) to Lipstick Lounge. When those names no longer worked for me, I would incorporate all of my interests under the same name: Jewells Avenue.

Yeah, that would work.

School was done. I had business cards, car magnets, waxing equipment. Someone even donated a wax table until I was able to purchase my own. I had a room to work out of rent free. Everything was perfect. Had a couple of clients and had booked a few weddings. Unfortunately, things didn’t last. I was spending more money on marketing, products, and networking but my income stood still at $0. Honestly feeling as though I had done everything I could to make things work, I decided to close up shop. I also began to contemplate if doing makeup was even in God’s cards for me.

So what was the purpose of spending eight months in school? Why had I been led in that direction? Is it possible because I had put the intention to the Universe at another other point in life and my wishes were manifesting at that particular point in life, even if to show me it wasn’t my path? Was that why I kept changing business names and plans?

Either way, I’ve come to learn that one path leads to another path. And going down the wrong path will eventually lead you to the right path.

Though my closet is bombarded with tons of makeup, waxing materials, books, and other paraphernalia I will never use, it has made it clear to where I would like to see my life go. I love to create. To take a blank page, fill it with words, and get lost in the tales of lives of people I’ve never met. Writing is where my heart beats. True, I can be a writer and have other jobs on the side, but I am most prosperous where I have passion. And it’s my duty to follow that.

Spiritual Jewel: Be clear on your intentions, on where you want to go in life. Make a decision and stick to it. If it doesn’t work, make another decision and stick to it.

This is Jewells signing out…
